Mark 10:29-30: “So Jesus answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.’”
Gloria Copeland, wife of the famous televangelist Kenneth Copeland, and a televangelist in her own right, in her book entitled “God’s Will is Prosperity,” said that this is a very good deal. And I would agree with her. What we read in these verses is a very good deal, albeit it not in the way Gloria Copeland thinks it is. Mark 10:29-30 is a passage certain televangelists love to utilize in order to encourage people to give to their “ministries.” After all, they say Christ’s promise affirms that if you give to God, a hundredfold return is guaranteed. Does it really affirm that? And if not, then what does this promise mean?
