General Information about BHITS

COURSE AUDIT  Students may choose to audit any course free of charge. Such audit students are invited to sit in on all classes and are not required to take exams or complete assignments. Being audit students, should they elect to do assignments, they should not expect them to be graded.

SPECIAL INTEREST OPTION  A student may wish to take a course(s) for credit but not enroll in a Diploma program. Assignments and fees will be the same as they are for Diploma students.

COURSE WITHDRAWALS  A student can withdraw from a course at any time during a term. However, a student wishing to withdraw should do so prior to the fifth week of class, or that student will risk receiving a failing grade in the course. Tuition will not be refunded after the first class.

GRADUATION  A student who has successfully completed the Diploma of Theological Studies, or the Advanced Diploma of Theological Studies will receive their diploma at the annual graduation ceremonies provided they, at that point, agree with the doctrinal statement of the school as outlined in this catalog.

LIBRARY & RESOURCE CENTER  Presently, students have access to a number of important and helpful theological texts related specifically to the course offerings. Access to the library is available Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and during classes on Thursday nights. As well, each student is encouraged to begin building their own ministry library. Course instructors will assign a text book for each course to help in this regard.

FINANCIAL MATTERS   Bloomfield Hills Institute of Theological Studies charges a minor fee in order to cover the cost of incurred expenses. The present fees are: Registration Fee (paid once): $10.00 Course Fee: $50.00/course Class Notes Fees: $10.00/course Textbook Fee: Varies with course. Payment is received in the form of cash, check or money order. All checks and money orders should be made payable to: Bloomfield Hills Baptist Church.

GRADING SYSTEM  Each course is assigned a letter grade indicating your level of achievement. The grading policy is as follows:

      A = 90-100% (excellent work)

      B = 80–89% (good work)

      C = 70-79% (satisfactory work)

      D = 60-69% (poor work)

      E = failing grade

TRANSCRIPTS  A transcript is kept on file for each enrolled student. Each student will receive a copy of his/her transcript at the conclusion of every term. If the student requests an official copy of the transcript to be sent to another school, the student must make this request in writing and give the name of the school, its address, and the name of the admissions officer of the school to which the transcript should be sent. There is a $3.00 fee for each request of an official grade transcript.

INCOMPLETES AND EXTENSIONS  Extra time to complete any assigned course work or to take missed quizzes/exams may be permitted by the instructor depending on the student’s situation. Should a student fail to request an extension, he or she will receive an incomplete for the class on his or her transcript.
